Gravel pits are landscapes, carriers of recollections, Denmark’s mountains and ravines – and a dramatic window 15,000 years back to another time and another nature. A violent cultural landscape with sophisticated drawings left behind where rusty machines have peeled off the strata to extract raw materials. In the emptied and uncovered gravel pit our Archaean Era stands like a vulnerable, throbbing landscape. A large, hollow tooth that is open almost down to the roots and the nerves. Closer to the interior of the Earth.
What is a landscape? What is nature? Can a human being amalgamate into the landscape? How does nature take over where we lose our grip?
